We’ll head out from Arusha to the Ngorongoro Crater. Here you’ll find the richest ecosystem of lions in Africa, plus thick numbers of the other predator cats like cheetah, leopard, hyena, and jackal. And you’ll discover plenty of other large game on the crater’s expansive floor like elephant, buffalo, gazelle, and rarities like the black rhino and wild hunting dogs. Toward day’s end, we’ll head up the volcano’s walls to take in a blazing sunset on the crater’s rim.
From the great expanse of Ngorongoro, we’ll journey to a small gem called Lake Manyara National Park – a stunning mix of thick forest and the blue expanse of the lake. This pretty park offers us sightings of elephants, giraffes, impalas, leopards, and active troops of baboons.
One of the most unusual animal spotting you’ll enjoy at the park is the sight of a lion above you… lazily resting on a tree branch. The tree-climbing lions of Manyara are famous throughout the region but so are the uncountable pink flamingos found on the shallow alkaline lake. Feeding on the algae, the minerals turn the birds’ feathers into a dazzling pink complexion – multiplied by the tens of thousands. The sight is at once, beautiful, stunning, and inspiring.
We also offer you the option of visiting lightly touristic Lake Tarangire National Park, instead of Lake Manyara. This park is known for its great herds of elephants and an active migration of thousands of animals passing through its borders.

We’ll head through Maasai country and may spot herders in their colourful shukas, tending to their cattle.
Arriving at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, we’ll take in the expansive view at the crater’s rim. A blue/green expanse of 256 sq. km (101 sq. mi) spreads out before us with the promise of a rich world of wildlife below.
We’ll descend into the crater amidst its swamps, acacia forests, and deep grasslands all holding a universe of animals waiting to be discovered. Lions, leopards, wildebeests, zebra, buffalo, are thriving in this self-contained ecosphere, and possible sightings of pink flamingos at Lake Magadi.
Driving back up the steep crater wall, we’ll take in a world-famous sunset at the rim and spend the night at our Ngorongoro accommodation.

We’ll be up early to savor the sights and sounds of the natural world. We may enjoy the sunrise near the crater’s rim – a most unforgettable sight.
Then it’s a quick trip to pretty Lake Manyara Park where we’ll be dazzled by the sight of thousands of fuchsia flamingos blanketing the shores of the lake. The park is well-known for its scenic beauty – Ernest Hemingway called it, “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. Manyara is equally famous for its tree-climbing lions but also plentiful other wildlife like elephants, warthogs, giraffes, and smaller game such as the little dik-dik, so named for the distinctive sound it makes. We’ll spend our second safari evening at our Lake Manyara safari lodge or tented camp. We’ll spend our second safari evening at our Lake Manyara safari lodge or tented camp.
